Information and FAQ

What is this stream?
This is a Livestream dedicated to playing games, and not being very good at them. There's no real limit on what games are going to be played, but you can mostly expect to see old school RPGs with a sprinkling of more modern games from any genre on occasion.

Who runs this stream?
Kuoushi is the voice of the stream. Also frequently called OP, Mike, or various derogatory explitives. Some guy who apparently never played any games during his childhood and is now finally going back to see what he missed out on due to too much time spent outside doing other shit.

And recently, some more gentlemen have stepped up to stream on what they are dubbing "Kuoushi's Terrible Game Network". You can see when these brave souls are going to stream on the schedule page.

Where and when can I see this stream?
You can view the stream here on the main page of www.kuoushi.com every night from midnight to 1am EST. Be sure to check the schedule to see make sure of times and check to see when other people are streaming. If you miss a show or want to watch older ones most of the recordings are available by clicking the "Video" link in the menu on this site. Saturday nights will see Kuoushi drinking alcohol and hopefully playing games plastered.

Why are you streaming?
The main reason is boredom. Kuoushi has nothing else to do at that time of night and other people seem to enjoy it. Also, he'd never finish any of these games if he was doing it by himself.

How do you do this stream?
I use SCFH DSF (English Installation Guide) to capture what's on my screen. It's extremely lightweight and tends to let you do practically anything with minimal slowdown when compared to alternatives such as ManyCam, the Livestream Procaster, and others. It also has a lot more built in functionality to more easily let you select what part of your screen you want to capture. Also, it's free.

On top of SCFH DSF I also use a program called WebcamMax to handle switching between webcam inputs, displaying pictures, video, and drawing on the screen. Lots of extra functionality to add to the stream, but ultimately optional for the purposes of Livestream. Just lets you do things to look a little more "professional", but there is other free software out there that can probably do the same.

You could stop here and just send that information directly to your browser for webcam capture or through Procaster, but I prefer to control much more directly how my stream is being encoded and use Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3 to take my webcam input, encode it to the proper format, and send that to Livestream's servers. You can control framerate, audio and video bitrate (to an extent), and a number of other little things like which audio and video device you wish to capture from. In my case it's normally my input from WebcamMax.

I can't connect to the chat on the site, help?
The flash chat connects to an IRC server, and sometimes that IRC server can go down or not work properly with LightIRC. If LightIRC doesn't connect, try refreshing the chat itself by clicking LightIRC and trying again. If that does not work, simply try the GeekShed embed by clicking that. It should work no matter what because it's the embed for the server. If that does not work, you still have options. Since the chat is an actual IRC server, you can connect to the chat through an external client like mIRC.

How do I register my nick in the chat?
In order to register your nick so that no one else can use it without the password, you have to either type "/msg nickserv register yourpasswordhere" without the quotes and your password where it says "yourpasswordhere", or you can click the dropdown menu in the bottom left of the LightIRC chat, go to Register nickname, and register through what it shows there. Once you've registered, that means you have to login by typing your password into the password field every time you join otherwise your name will be changed to unidentified####. If that happens, just type /nick yournick, followed by /msg nickserv id yourpasswordhere. Or you can just click the LightIRC button to refresh the chat and retype in your password into the field.

What does the + in front of a name mean and how do I get one?
The + in front of peoples names' means that if I have to mute the chat, then they can still talk. This helps me to easily control spam. If you want to have a neat little + by your name, register using the steps above, and then just let me know. I will likely add you to the autovoice list that gives you the + whenever you join the chat. Of course, that's at my discretion.

Do you have some kind of voice chat or Ventrilo server?
Yes, we do have a Ventrilo server actually. IP: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 4917 Feel free to hop in and yell at things.
